Urology also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs.
TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration)
It is a procedure performed for men who are having sperm retrieved for IVF/ICSI. It is done with local anesthesia in the operating room or office and is coordinated with their female partner's egg retrieval. A needle is inserted in the testicle and tissue/sperm are aspirated.
TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction)
It is a procedure used for men with obstructive azoospermia, and involves the extraction of spermatozoa directly from the testis through the skin for IVF/ICSI.
PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration)
It is a procedure that does not require a surgical incision. A small needle is passed directly into the head of the epididymis through the scrotal skin and fluid is aspirated. The doctor retrieves the sperm cells from the fluid and prepares them for IVF / ICSI.
